Edibaldo “Eddie” Duran, 29, a Mexican national, was arrested Wednesday by Mexican officials after they received information of his location in the south-central city of Puebla from the U.S. Marshals Service and took Duran into custody.

Following his arrest, U.S. Marshal Service took Duran into custody in Mexico, where he was extradited to Connecticut on an outstanding warrant from 2014, said Fairfield Police Lt. Robert Kalamaras.

Once he arrived in Connecticut, Fairfield Police detectives took custody of Duran and transported him to Fairfield, where he was formally charged with home invasion, aggravated sexual assault, strangulation, assault, unlawful restraint, and larceny. He is being held on #250,000 bond until his arraignment.

The attack took place on Sept. 1, 2014, around 3 a.m. at a private residence occupied by female college students, said Kalamaras.

The victim, a Sacred Heart University student, who was the lone occupant of the home at the time, was awakened by Duran, beaten, sexually assaulted, and strangled to the point of unconsciousness, Kalamaras said.

Kalamaras said after an intensive investigation, to include a scientific examination of physical evidence, Duran was positively identified as the person responsible for the attack, and an arrest warrant affidavit was signed for his arrest.

Shortly after, on Sept. 5, 2014, Duran boarded an AeroMexico flight that departed from JFK and arrived in Mexico City at 5:08 a.m. later that same morning, police said.
